Big K.R.I.T - Dreamin' (Prod. Big K.R.I.T.)

Download: Big K.R.I.T. - Dreamin'

In general, i'm not much a Big K.R.I.T. fan. He tends lack ability with any of the technical aspects of lyricism. This song however is worth hearing off the strength of the production and content alone and the way K.R.I.T. manages to make his story feel so 'authentic'. Dreamin' chronicles the rappers path from a nobody to where he is now and details all the doubts he was forced to overcome. The production is sparse and minimalist with a beautiful sample lead chorus. His 3rd verse is what sold me on the track and I can only imagine how great this track would have been if the first two verses were of a similar standard.
Besides I ain't rap about dope, nor did I sell it
I guess the story of a country boy just aint that compellin
A&R's searchin for a hit I just need a meal
Couldn't afford to pay the rent but passed up on a deal, coz
It wasn't right, sometimes you gotta wait to show'em
In a class of my own but scared to raise my arm
This tracks the first release off Big K.R.I.T's upcoming release, 'Return Of 4eva'.

Rating: 7.5/10
